Excess 13: 7 practical and clever tips on board our new catamaran

Aboard the Excess 13, nothing is left to chance. Every detail has been designed to make life simpler, smoother, and more pleasant, whether under way or at anchor.
Here are 7 discreet yet remarkably effective tips, directly inspired by real sailors’ everyday life.

1 – Rainwater collection

The Excess 13’s coachroof includes a molded gutter that captures rainwater across its entire surface. This water is routed to a forward locker equipped with a three-way valve, accessible from the saloon.

Depending on your needs, it can:

  • supply a second 300 L freshwater tank,

  • or be discharged under the nacelle.

This system offers valuable autonomy for deck washing, rinsing, or dishwashing. A sustainable, simple, and perfectly integrated solution — embodying the true Excess spirit.

2 – Effective natural ventilation

Even before turning on the air conditioning, the Excess 13 ensures remarkable natural airflow thanks to:

• roof openings in the forward windows,
• a 360° view that promotes circulation,
• opening portholes all the way to the owner’s suite,
• interior volumes designed to let air flow from bow to stern.

Result: a cooler, more comfortable interior under sail or at anchor, and reduced energy consumption.

3 – One door, two functions: the “less is more” trick

Certainly one of the cleverest details: a door that serves both as a cabin door… and as a closet door.

When you open it, it automatically closes the storage space. When you close it, it frees access to the closet.

Fewer doors, fewer bumps, more space and fluidity. Simply brilliant.

4 – A 380 L wet locker

At the back, the cockpit houses a huge 380 L wet locker.
Ideal for:

  • diving or surfing wetsuits,

  • watersports gear,

  • a light tender,

  • anything that comes back wet or sandy,

This dedicated locker keeps the cockpit clean, avoids going back and forth through the cabins, and above all allows everything to be rinsed and dried in one single place. A real plus for water sports lovers!

5 - A removable laundry bin: simple but essential

In the owner’s bathroom, a removable laundry bin is integrated under the countertop.
With a single gesture, it can be taken out to go to the marina laundry room or simply to empty the laundry on board.

A discreet detail, but one that makes all the difference during extended life on board: less clutter, more efficiency — exactly in the Excess DNA.

6 - Cork inside the storage areas: silence and comfort

Several storage compartments on the Excess 13 are lined with natural cork.
This material, in addition to being sustainable, offers three key advantages on board:

  • natural anti-slip: objects don’t slide while sailing,

  • noise absorption: accessories no longer rattle with the boat’s movement,

  • comfort in use: pleasant to the touch, warm atmosphere.

Cork is part of the boat’s new interior signature, alongside felt and light wood, creating a modern, light, and functional atmosphere.

7 – Integrated sunshades on the displays

The exterior navigation screens feature sunshades molded directly into their structure to reduce glare and improve readability in bright light.
While sailing — especially in very sunny areas — this clever detail makes a huge difference: the display remains clear, critical information is always visible, and overall safety is improved.

The Excess spirit in the details

These features are not there by chance: they reflect the way Excess designs its boats. A vision based on simplicity, ingenuity, real-life use, and the authenticity of sailors — and that’s what makes the difference aboard the Excess 13.
