The world is changing. The pace, the desires, the ways in which we travel, work, and gather… everything is more fluid, more connected, more hybrid.
The Excess 11 Hybrid is part of this new reality: working, relaxing, sharing… everything on board, without compromise. With this new model, we are entering a new era: that of a hybrid production-model catamaran that is accessible, silent, and designed for a new generation of sailors.
But hybrid power aboard a multihull, is that really worth it? How does that work? And especially, how does that change life on board? We’ll tell you all about it!
Hybrid Catamarans: Welcome to the Future, and Cruising 2.0!
We see it everywhere: a new generation of sailors is arriving with their own set of values. Experienced or not, they want comfort, yes, but not at any price. They seek the perfect balance between performance and respect for the environment.
Does this speak to you? If so, hybrid catamarans are made for you!
How Did We Get Here, at Excess?
At Excess, we like to push the limits. After our prototype Excess 15 E-lab in 2021, a true floating laboratory, we worked for two years to make this technology realistic, reliable, and accessible. For two years, we tested, listened to the feedback from Excess Lab, experimented...
The result: Excess 11 Hybrid was born, and she is already ready to transform your way of cruising!

Hybrid Power Aboard a Catamaran… How Does That Work?
A Simple, Efficient System
Aboard the Excess 11, we opted for the hybrid engine series: electric engines are not directly connected to diesel engines, but powered by a rechargeable lithium battery pack. Concretely:
- You leave port with fully charged batteries, recharged at the dock;
- Electric engines (in pods located beneath the hulls) propel you in silence;
- Power for 2 to 5 hours is sufficient for outings, maneuvers, anchorages...
- When you need more power, the generator takes over.
Zero noise and good energy management. In short, hybrid engine power designed for real conditions of use, without compromising reliability!
Aboard the Excess 11 Hybrid, Details Make the Difference
Underwater Pods : Electric engines are directly connected to the propeller. No mechanical transmission = direct power, without loss!
Natural Cooling : Beneath the hulls = cooling by seawater. No noise, no vibration, and less maintenance!
Low Voltage (48 V) : Any technician can intervene. No need for high-voltage certification.
Intelligent Energy Management : Intuitive software to follow energy consumption in real time.
Advantages of Hybrid Propulsion, or How Your Life On Board Will Change
The Silence!
Imagine: you find a paradise-like anchorage and you hear only the sound of lapping water. Just you and the ocean. Even when the generator is functioning, it is not at all comparable with classic internal combustion engines!
Boosted Sailing
By combining electric propulsion with sailing, you augment the apparent wind and extend your sailing session... in total silence. Even in light air, you can remain under sail longer!
Optimized Energy Management
With your XXL lithium batteries, your equipment functions for a full 24 hours, remaining fully connected, with unlimited lighting.
And the Budget?
The hybrid Excess 11 remains accessible. The difference in price between the classic Excess 11 and the hybrid version is minimal: in 2025, the full hybrid option (electric pods, lithium batteries, generator, converters) costs 84,000€, excluding taxes, or just 50,000€ more than an Excess 11 with an internal combustion engine and the same equipment for onboard comfort. For us, our mission of making this technology accessible is accomplished!
I Want My Excess 11 Hybrid
And Tomorrow?
At Excess, we’re not stopping there! We are already working on adapting the system, enabling each Excess catamaran to have its own hybrid version.
The future of cruising is now. Will you step aboard and join us? 😉
