EXCESS 11: THE FIRST CATAMARAN INTEGRATING A RECYCLABLE RESIN AND RECYCLED MATERIALS

At Excess, innovation goes beyond the sensations on the water. It also shapes the way we design our boats.

Today, we are taking a key step forward with an Excess 11 integrating recyclable resin and recycled glass fibres. A world first in the production catamaran segment, marking a concrete milestone towards more sustainable boats.

Our goal? To continue delivering everything that defines the Excess DNA — performance, simplicity, the joy of sailing — while rethinking the environmental impact of how we build.

An innovative catamaran integrating recycled materials

With this project, Excess becomes the first brand to offer a production catamaran combining:

  •     Elium® recyclable resin
  •     Low-carbon resin
  •     45% recycled glass fibres

This technological breakthrough marks a turning point in boatbuilding. It reduces environmental impact while maintaining the standards of reliability, structural integrity and performance that sailors expect.

Elium® Resin: a key innovation for boat recycling

Elium® resin represents a true revolution in the marine industry. Unlike traditional resins, it enables composite materials to be recycled.

In practice, this means that production waste can be recycled, composite parts can be deconstructed at end of life, and glass fibres and resin can be separated and reused.

This technology addresses a critical challenge: improving end-of-life management for boats and reducing waste generated during manufacturing.

Towards a circular economy in the marine industry

Thanks to technologies such as pyrolysis, it is now possible to recover and recycle the components of composite materials.

These materials can then be reintegrated into new production cycles, including within the marine industry.

This dynamic is made possible through a collaboration between leading industry players:

  •     Groupe Beneteau
  •     Arkema
  •     Veolia
  •     Composite Recycling
  •     Owens Corning
  •     Chomarat

Together, they cover the entire value chain — from materials production to recycling.

This project proves that it is possible to design more sustainable catamarans while preserving the pleasure of sailing.

It is a major technological advancement that paves the way for more responsible catamarans — conceived from the outset to last… and to be recycled tomorrow.
