Excess at the start of ARC+ and ARC 2025

This year again, the start of the ARC+ in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria offered its share of emotions… and the Excess family was well present on the line!
Five catamarans, five nationalities, and one same desire: to head offshore and experience a transatlantic crossing that will remain in the memories.

The ARC+: a two-stage crossing

The ARC+ follows the spirit of the ARC, but with a stopover that changes everything.
Leaving from Gran Canaria, the crews first set course for Mindelo, in Cape Verde. A first passage of around 850 nautical miles, five to seven days paced by the watches, the wind, and the first rituals of life at sea.

In Mindelo, it is time for a well-deserved break: a few days ashore to discover the island, rest, tinker, and enjoy a unique atmosphere before setting off again.

Because the second stage is the most intense:
2,150 nautical miles to Grenada, 12 to 16 days of offshore navigation carried by the trade winds, paced by watches, squalls, and life in the open sea.

A great collective energy

Before the departure, our Excess crews had many moments to meet each other and create a true group spirit. Advice, laughter, technical discussions, sharing of experience… The atmosphere was simple, warm, authentic — everything we love at Excess.
Our teams were also on site to support the final preparations. Checks, small adjustments, encouragements, and special moments on board allowed us to experience, alongside them, the thrill of the start: that gentle tension when the mooring lines are still at the dock, the knowing looks with loved ones, then the pure excitement at the moment of setting off.

And it’s not over…

This weekend, 2 other Excess catamarans and their crew will in turn take the big start of the ARC from Las Palmas.
We wish them all a beautiful crossing!
